SDG Group launches a SAP–Databricks project at CAF in Spain

Thanks to this development, the transport company can more quickly identify employee concerns and track changes in workplace climate

SDG Group, a multinational technology consultancy specialized in AI and Data Science, has announced the development of the first project in Spain to combine SAP Business Data Cloud and Databricks. This implementation has been carried out at CAF, a global leader in integrated transport systems, as part of its global data strategy aimed at centralizing operational and business information into a unified analytical model.

SDG Group has leveraged the partnership between SAP and Databricks to develop CAF’s enterprise AI by unifying all data. “This project demonstrates that the integration of SAP and Databricks is not only possible, but also delivers tangible and measurable business value,” explains Carlos Pineda Vidal, Executive Manager of Data & Analytics at SDG Group. “It also reflects the path toward truly unified analytics, where operational and business worlds are natively connected to enable contextualized AI and data governance,” he added.

More than 18,000 surveys

SDG Group and CAF have developed an Artificial Intelligence project that enables faster and simpler management of employee sentiment, based on an annual survey conducted with more than 18,000 employees and over 170 questions.
Until now, survey results generated a large volume of comments and multiple open-ended responses in different languages. The analysis included indicators such as the Net Promoter Score—measuring the likelihood of recommending the company—making the process complex and time-consuming for analysts. In addition, the format did not fully capture the added value of free-text comments.

The project aimed to generate richer insights from the surveys and unify them with operational and business data. SDG Group enabled the integration between SAP Business Data Cloud and Databricks, where survey data was delivered as a Data Product (a packaged dataset) to allow processing with AI models and enrich each response with topic and sentiment analysis. Similarly, thanks to the Delta Share zero-copy connector, the system could read data without moving it, reducing data management time by 20%.

Finally, it became possible to natively combine employee data tables, customer surveys, and action plans from SAP Business Data Cloud with the AI-enriched dataset in Databricks. The entire model is visualized through SAP Analytics Cloud, providing a comprehensive and holistic view of organizational climate.

Through this project, CAF has been able to identify the most relevant issues affecting its employees and segment sentiment by area, role, or hierarchical level. At the same time, management time, manual workload, and analyst subjectivity have been reduced, enabling earlier risk detection and better tracking of sentiment evolution over longer periods.
